How To Have A Healthy Pregnancy

healthy pregnancyLet’s take a step back from morning sickness for now and focus on the more important topic of having a healthy pregnancy.

As I’m sure you can agree, your baby’s health is most important!

Now I’ve had two children myself and if you’ve read my story, then you know I’ve had the worst cases of morning sickness possible.

So now I want to actually talk about pregnancy in general and the things you need to do to ensure that you and your baby are as healthy as possible.

Now one of the first things I want you to understand is that you really need to visit your doctor the moment you find out that you are pregnant.

I know that this may sound obvious to most of you, but you’d be shocked at the number of women that refuse to see doctors – especially younger women.

You Must See A Doctor

A doctor is extremely important to see during pregnancy.  He/she will be able to tell you about any complications that have emerged, what vitamins or medicine you need to be taking, changes to your diet, and other such important information regarding your pregnancy.

I cannot stress this enough - seeing a doctor is vital.  If you’re a young woman, don’t be scared!  Your confidentiality will be kept safe.

For example, during my pregnancy the doctor would check to make sure that I had sufficient proteins in my diet.

He would also check my urine to make sure that it’s healthy and not showing any signs of problems.

For the sake of the baby’s health, you need to see the doctor so that he can do some tests and make sure that the pregnancy is healthy all the way through.

You will probably want to see the doctor at least once per month all the way up until your pregnancy.  Doing so is the best way to ensure that your baby is safe.

You will also get an ultrasound from your doctor that will show you the baby and the size of it.  This is always fun as you get to see new life forming in your body!

Such a crazy thought, right??  Seeing the ultrasound for the first time is one of the best moments of your pregnancy.

Having A Balanced Diet

It’s extremely important that you learn how to eat a balanced diet.

If this is a new topic for you, then I can recommend a lot of resources for you (I’ll do that another time though).

For now, all you need to know is that you need to be eating healthy foods full of nutrients.

healthy diet while pregnantYou’ll want to be eating foods with proteins – eggs, milk, meats, tofu, etc.

You also want to eat vegetables as they contain nutrients and vitamins that are extremely good for your baby.

Because you have a new life growing inside of you, it’s important that you spend the next 9 months cutting out the bad foods from your diet.

You can still eat anything you want, but just keep the not so healthy stuff at a minimum.

It goes without saying that you need to avoid alcohols and smoking – just don’t do it.  Too many moms continue to ignore this advice and they end up with a not so intelligent child.

Be sure to eat lots of fruits and vegetables.

Vitamin C is a great nutrient to be eating as this vitamin helps your baby’s immune system.

Calcium is important as well and it’s why I suggest you consume milk and green vegetables.  Calcium is important for bone strength and you can start it off right by eating these foods.

Once the baby is born, continue to feed it calcium-rich foods as it will only help to strengthen their bones.

You also need to be consuming a lot of water each and every day – you can replace some water with juice if you wish as it contains good nutrients.

However, I recommend that you avoid juices that are high in sugar as these are not as healthy for you as they’d like you to believe…

You will gain weight!  So don’t feel bad when this happens.

Weight gain = healthy baby!

I cannot stress this enough – some women still think that weight gain during pregnancy is bad and not wanted.

This is not true!

If you’re putting on 20 to 30 pounds, you’re going to have a kick ass healthy baby as long as you are eating healthy.

Exercise Reduces Pain

Exercising is also something that you can do to help you feel better during your pregnancy.

There are so many different types of exercise classes for pregnant women these days.

I’ve seen yoga classes, pilates classes, dance classes and more – you should take advantage of some of these classes and exercise at least once per week.

Not only does exercise reduce discomfort, but after you have the baby you’ll find that you recover much more quickly.
